턴테이블과 소울의 절묘한 동거, 런던의 혼성 3인조 그룹Belleruche!! 싱글 [Northern Girls]을 보너스로 수록한 정규 1집!!

Belleruche (벨러루시)는 영국 런던을 근거지로 활동하는 혼성 3인조 언더그라운드 그룹로 턴테이블리스트 DJ Modest(디제이 모디스트), 기타리스트 Ricky Fabulous(리키 패뷸러스), 보컬리스트 Kathrin deBoer(캐스린 드보에)로 이루어져 있다. 처음에는 모디스트와 리키, 두 명으로 시작해 런던의 어느 바에서 턴테이블과 기타를 이용한 공연을 하던 중 차를 즐기며 노래하던 캐스린을 우연히 만나 Belleruche 를 결성하게 된다. 그리고 2005년, 자신들의 레이블 Hippoflex 을 설립하고 자체 제작 형태로 싱글을 발매하지만, 여러 가지로 열악한 상황 탓에 손에서 손으로 전해지는 수준의 배급에 그치고 만다. 그러던 중 2007년 드디어 영국의 유명 인디레이블 Tru Thoughts와 계약하고 그들의 공식 데뷔 앨범 [Turntable Soul Music]을 출시하게 된다. 평단과 대중의 뜨거운 환호 속에 성공적인 데뷔를 거둔 이들은 2008년에 들어서 싱글 [Northern Girls] 발매와 함께 글래스턴베리 페스티벌과 몽트뢰 재즈 페스티벌 등에 초대되는 등 바쁜 일정 가운데 2집 [The Express]를 발표한다.
본 작 [The Express]는 전 작의 엄청난 성공으로 인해 모두의 기대 속에서 발표된 Belleruche (벨러루시)의 두 번째 정규작으로 한층 블루지하고 쿨한 사운드로 돌아왔다. 전 작에서 선보였던 재즈, 블루스, 소울, 힙합, 일렉트로닉 등 다양한 장르를 절묘하게 접목시킨 그들만의 스타일, 턴테이블 소울 사운드를 그대로 이어받고 있는 ‘Anything You Want (Not That)’을 비롯하여 부드러우면서도 호소력 짙은 소울 보컬리스트 드보에를 위한 두 곡 ‘Backyard’, ‘Goose Blues’와 레이블 동료이자 뛰어난 멀티플레이어 콴틱 스타일의 ‘Like 4 The Hard Way’, 거침없이 치고 나오는 호른 계열의 훅과 스윙이 인상적인 ‘Late Train’ 등이 수록되어 있다.
